Eric Christopher Phelps FRCO, GRSM 1966 - 1968

Born Cheltenham 21 May 1943. Phelps' early education was at the King's School, Gloucester, he then went to the Royal College of Music, 1961-5, and in 1965 he took the diplomas of FRCO and CHM (with Turpin prize). VIl He was brought over by F G Carter to act as deputy whilst Carter was on an adjudicating tour in Canada. V On Carter's resignation, Phelps was appointed organist and began his duties at Armagh in September 1966. He resigned at the end of May 1968 to study conducting at the Akademie fur Musik, Vienna, where he received the Kapellmeister Diplom in 1971. VII Since then he has been a senior lecturer in the music department of the Colchester Institute of Further Education.
